21 Months Old!

I am a week late with this post but I wanted to get it down anyway.

It has been an eventful month...James is now potty trained!  He still occasionally has accidents but we can go out for hours and normally have no trouble.  Most of his accidents happen when Mommy and Daddy are both home and busy working on projects.  I feel like he doesn't want to interrupt us to tell us he needs to go potty.  He can do both #1 and #2 in the potty  and he tells me when he needs to go.  There are still several times during the day that I make him go also.

He has also started wanting to be very independent.  All day long he is pointing to himself and saying "James" (which sounds kind of like "D") telling me that he wants to do it himself.

I haven't put this in a monthly post before but we have been learning different letters and sounds with our themes each month.  I started it just to give James some exposure and make letter crafts for reference later when we did work on learning the alphabet.  James has really seemed to be interested in the alphabet and now knows 9 letter sounds (A, B, C, H, J, L, M, S, T).  He doesn't know the names of all of those letters but he can look at the letter and tell me the sound it makes or tell me the sound it makes when I ask him.  He has not however, caught on to the colors we have been trying to learn for the last month.  He can say the names of the colors we have worked on but he only identifies the correct color like 50% of the time.  He just guesses.  I don't know if he isn't understanding the concept or maybe he is color blind!

One of James' favorite thing to do right now is play on the "wheee!" (his slide).

March=Dr. Seuss and Colors

This month we are working on a different color each week. Therefore, we will have a different sensory box each week along with new activities, books, and themed snacks! This week we read The Cat in the Hat and learned the color red.

One week both boys were sick and VERY germy. Everyone was getting cranky as we waited for naptime so I decided we needed a picture to color. I printed out heart pictures and gave them some crayons. It kept us busy for at least 15 minutes!

The only girls these boys are allowed to love is Mommy!

No pictures of the sensory box this month...I forgot to take pictures and it has already been changed over to a March sensory box.

Happy Birthday Dr. Seuss!

Today we actually wore shorts for the first time since potty training. I couldn't quite bring myself to put pants on him (too difficult to take on and off) even though it wasn't really warm enough for shorts. You see, James needs to have everything off in order to go potty. It makes it more interesting!

We went out of the house today! We went shopping this morning for about 45 minutes and this afternoon for 1 hour and 45 minutes-with no accidents! We did have to take several trips to the potty while we were out but that was more about an excuse to get out of the stroller than anything else. He has learned how to make mommy jump!

I would consider him potty trained now. We are still having some accidents and there are still some things to fine tune but I don't spend all my time worrying about when he might go again. I feel like we are pretty much back to living life normally.

Potty Training-Day 3

Today we made progress!!

We had two accidents early this morning and one this afternoon. That's about 1/3 the amount of accidents we had yesterday! I don't think he ever asked to go to the potty today but I am wondering if that is because I take him to the potty more than he actually HAS to go so he never has a chance to ask. He definitely seemed to be able to go longer between trips to the potty today. We even went out for ice cream this evening to celebrate and he didn't have any accidents! The poop issue is still there but I think he has decided he just isn't going to do that anymore (this could present another problem!). I'm hoping as he gets more confident with peeing he will then be able to focus on pooping.

Little boys can find a puddle to play in anywhere! His shirt was wet, not his undies!

It also helped a lot (for me anyway) that we could go outside and play for awhile today.

Mud stains on your undies is normal, right? Yes, I'm sure that's what it is!
