nesting??

So, when you are nearing the end of your pregnancy you are supposed to start nesting...you know cleaning out closets and setting up a nursery. Well, for me THIS makes it hard!

Yes, we are moving just a couple months before the baby is due! The most exciting part though is that we don't really know where we are moving so we won't be able to move directly from one house to the next. I decided early on that a bassinet was all I needed for the baby to sleep in for the first several months so I don't need a nursery all painted and ready. My life can be in chaos...it's ok. I was telling my mom all this and found out it is in my genes. Apparently when my mom was pregnant with me my parents sold their house and lived with my dad's mom for a while before they moved into their house. I assured my mom that she really didn't need to start a tradition like that for me but apparently the legacy lives on!

I have been finding little corners amidst the growing piles of boxes to do my own little bit of nesting. This is the awesome changing table I found this weekend and my wonderful husband fixed up to make it like new!

  1. You are handling all of this transition VERY WELL! The makeshift nursery still looks pretty darn good.

    Love to you both!

  2. Use all of your nesting urges to organize as you pack. Moving is a great way to get everything in order. However, knowing you, it's probably already in order. In that case, just take a road trip here. I could use the help.

  4. I love it. AND? Last night I dreamed that you were not only moving across town, you were moving to colorado...?! So glad that was only a dream. I love that you are nesting in that small corner!

  5. Very sweet! I find the moments of transition are the ones that I need to carve out a small space of order even more. Nice job.

  6. My daughter slept in a bassinet for quite a while, and I really loved those days. It was just the perfect small size for the perfect small baby. Plus, I could move it from room to room, depending on where I needed her to be. It will be fine. You have it right. You just need a corner on the edge of the chaos.

  7. We once had to live with my parents for 7 weeks after we sold one home and hadn't yet purchased another one! We had two small kids then, but it was a fun 7 weeks. Your changing table is darling and congratulations on selling your home!

  8. Congrats on the baby and selling your home! We move all the time and two of those times were during the same pregnancy! The second one six weeks before he was due, to another state. It all worked out fine :). Babies don't know if they have the floor to ceiling nursery experience! You'll have more fun getting the baby set up once you know it's personality and such anyway!

  9. Well...apparently Amy and I like all the same blogs...because I scrolled down and here she is above me!

When I got pregnant with my son after many, many years...we lived in our dream home! I was so excited to fix it up vintage farm style...before any painting was done (thankfully) we began thinking of moving and like you had no idea where we would go... I was beginning to prepare myself for living with parents - aaahh! As it turns out everything happened in God's perfect timing and we moved into our current home (not quite my dream) 3 weeks before he was born (early)...

He was a few months old before the room was finished and it was FABULOUS, but I say all the time if I have another I'm not going to do all that just carve out a little niche our room because that's where they are for a year anyway!

Your baby has all he or she can need - Loving Parents, a place to change a diaper and a comfy bassinett!! It's BEAUTIFUL!! Thank you for sharing!!

  10. Love the change table - nearly identical to the one I had with mine. We moved interstate and I was painting 2 weeks before my first was born. His nursery developed with him.

Two of my others were moved overseas - one while pregnant and then again just after being born, and the other at 4 weeks. He slept in a dresser drawer on the floor by the bed for 2 months.

We look back on that time with wonderful memories.

    Have fun nesting!

  11. We are doing something very similar right now. Our house is for sale and we know where we are moving but we have no idea where we will be living. I commend you for your bravery! Especially since you have a little one on the way.
