Potty Training-Day 2

ready for anything!!

I don't really know how to assess today....yesterday was good but today was the same as yesterday. It seems like he should have improved today since I would not consider him to be potty trained yet. I guess the good news is today we had less puddles. We went through the same amount of undies today as yesterday but most of the time he just peed a little as we ran to the potty.

snacks to make us have to go!

He does seem to have an issue with pooping. Yesterday it seemed to come easy so I thought we were doing well. Today it seemed to come easy...in his undies! We're still working on that one. This morning he would tell me he needed to go potty as he just started to pee. This afternoon he seemed to not tell me when he needed to go. He would go a little in his undies but not tell me or stop what he was doing. When I would ask him if he needed to go he would go to the potty and finish going.

teaching Bobo to say "mama, potty!" then run, run, run to the potty.

I'm beginning to think we will never leave the house again! I went into this thinking we will give it several days but if he is doing horribly we will give it up after 4 or 5 days. At this point I feel like he is doing too well to give it up but not well enough to make me feel like there will ever be an end! I guess we'll just have to see what tomorrow holds.

he does look pretty cute doing it all!

Potty Training-Day 1

Well, today is the day I finally decided to bite the bullet and try potty training for real. I had wanted to wait until Spring Break when I wasn't babysitting for a couple days in a row but I started thinking too much about it and worrying about it and decided I need to just get it over with. I was pretty sure James was really ready but worried that I was wrong.

James woke up at 7:00 and we put on undies. From 7-9 he did great. We had lots to drink and some extra snacks. Then I put Corbin down for his morning catnap. From 9-10 we went through 6 pairs of undies! I guess the extra drinks started to catch up with him. I expected the whole day to be like this as he tried to figure out how to get to the bathroom BEFORE it happened. Then at 10:00 we were reading a book and I was about to go get Corbin up and James said "potty!". We ran to the potty and he did #1 and #2 with NO accident! I was so excited. From then until nap time we went outside to play and played in the house for awhile and James asked to go potty and didn't have any accidents the whole time. I put him in a diaper for nap and sat down to relax for a little bit (oh, and did a load of laundry so we would be ready for the rest of the day)!

This afternoon wasn't as good as the late morning but not as bad as the early morning. We went through 3 pairs of underwear this afternoon (more laundry after bedtime) but each time they were just a little wet so...improvement, right?!

Well, at the end of today I am not scared about tomorrow but I don't feel super confident about tomorrow either. I guess we'll just see how it goes!

20 Months

In honor of James' 20 month birthday we got the first (and probably only) snow of the year! It was very exciting. I kept trying to show James the snow out the window but I wasn't sure if he really knew what I was getting so excited about. We've read a lot of books about snow but I wasn't sure he really got it. I pointed out the snow on his slide which prompted him to want to go "wheeee!" (go down the slide). I hesitated because the snow was really wet and nasty but I have a winter coat for him and thick insulated pants so I decided it wouldn't hurt anything for us to go out and check it out. I scooped up some of the snow from the slide and made a little snow ball and we played catch. He was very excited and now calls the snow "ball". He wasn't sure about going down the slide or climbing the ladder once we got outside and he touched the snow, but he was still impressed with snow.

Yesterday James put two words together a few times to communicate with me and he is adding new words daily. Right now he is obsessed with what things in the house are mommy's or daddy's. He will point to our shoes and tell us whose they are, he points to the remote and says daddy, etc. He has learned many sports figures celebrations....Wayne Rooney's goal celebration, Aaron Rodgers' touchdown celebration, and BJ Raji's touchdown celebration. He now will "sing" with the radio in the car when we are driving around town. He sang all the way to the Children's museum the other day.

Consignment sales are starting again for the Spring and James has enjoyed the vacuum I got him and most recently his little laptop. I didn't expect him to love the laptop quite as much as he has...I'm starting to think we may have to start to limit his computer time already!

Vacuum

I'm about to have the cleanest house in the neighborhood!

Thank goodness for consignment sales and my child's love for cleaning supplies.

Sleep

I decided I need to do a better job of posting the funny things James does...

This past week James has been sick and on most days has taken a morning nap in addition to his normal afternoon nap because he was just melting down and we all needed a break. Well, on Friday when I put him in his bed for his morning nap he just played in his bed so I figured he must be feeling well enough that he didn't need the morning nap anymore. So, on Saturday I wasn't planning on trying to give him that nap. Well, that morning, Lee and I were downstairs working on something and James disappeared upstairs. A little later I heard him crying and wondered how he hurt himself this time. I went upstairs to find him in his room. He had pulled his blankie out of the bed and onto the floor and was crying at the side of his crib "bobo (his monkey)...night night...bobo...night night." I laid him down and he went right to sleep.

I guess it was time for his nap!
